Step back in time to the era of the horse soldier by visiting the 6th Cavalry Museum. Stationed at The Post at Fort Oglethorpe (1919-1942), the story of the ''Fighting Sixth'' Cavalry is illustrious, beginning in 1861 as a U.S. Cavalry Regiment to present day. the museum is located on the Post?s original parade ground/polo field, and the area, surrounded by officer?s homes and other Post buildings, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Visited by presidents, military heroes and celebrities, the museum houses artifacts, uniforms, weapons, accoutrements, photos, and vehicles.
From I-75 take Exit 350 Battlefield Parkway / Fort Oglethorpe. Turn left at Kmart onto LaFayette Road. Turn right at Harker Road, left at stop sign, museum is on the right.
